Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris and more novelties: Watches & Wonders 2022 has begun and the watchmaker’s watchmaker is sharing their novelties. With a line-up this strong it was hard for me to pick a true favorite, but I have managed to choose three that I find the most interesting.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Perpetual Calendar – the complicated sports watch

Sporty element of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris has been a favorite of many, as it incorporates a sporty element into the brand that is so well known for its exceptional watchmaking. While the collection already features a chronograph, an alarm, as well as time only and world time watches, the brand is adding another complication – the perpetual calendar.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris will keep precise date at all times

Surely, one of the most useful complications, the perpetual calendar on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris will always keep the precise date. It incorporates a mechanism accounting for the leap years, apart from the year 2100. However, since that is still in the future, let’s get back to the watch, which is available in either stainless steel with a steel bracelet or rose gold with a fitting blue rubber strap.

Consider the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Haute horlogerie

No matter the case material, both versions of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris come with a beautiful gradient blue dial . The dial displays the time, as well as the year, month, day and date, and moon phase – all in a 100m water resistant case. This is haute horlogerie ready to go anywhere.

Navigation over our planet

If there is one genre in haute horlogerie I utterly adore, it is without doubt the category of travel watches. Not only do I genuinely enjoy world time watches in all different manners, but the finest of these are the most interesting to me, as they are reminiscent of a time when watches were invaluable pieces of equipment for successful navigation over our planet. The new Master Grande Tradition Caliber 948, is exactly such a watch.

Métiers Rares on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition

You wouldn’t wear it while sailing around the world in search of unknown territory. But it still resembles that spirit of navigation. Thanks to its gorgeous world time complication, that is topped off by a beautiful 60 seconds tourbillon, it’s genuinely useful when traveling abroad. Uniting multiple skills from the Manufacture’s Métiers Rares atelier, 70 hours alone go into the creation of the domed, open-worked and enameled dial.

Limited to 20 pieces

However, the watchmaking behind is also among the finest you can find, as its automatic winding movement is powering a 60 seconds tourbillon which rotates around the dial once every 24 hours. As you might have guessed already, this is a highly exclusive piece. Jaeger-LeCoultre will which make only 20 pieces, so you better call your nearest boutique fast!

JLC Atmos Hybris Mechanica Caliber 590

JLC Atmos Hybris Mechanica Caliber 590

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s tabletop clock

I know we are all about wristwatches here, but the Atmos Hybris Mechanica Caliber 590 is among the most important watches the brand has announced at this fair. For those who don’t know about the Atmos, this is the brand’s tabletop clock. Jaeger-LeCoultre managed to create a nearly infinite power reserve. A temperature dependent mechanism uses the expansion of a gas to generate its power. It is also the official gift of the Swiss Confederation to diplomats for over fifty. Thus can the Atmos be found in quite a few offices all over the world.

Most complex Jaeger-LeCoultre ever

With the Atmos Hybris Mechanica, the Maison is now presenting the most complex Atmos ever. With most of the worksteps, such as miniature-painting, laser-engraving, as well as lacquer work and meteorite inlay being performed by the Métiers Rares, the result is not only a horological masterpiece, but also a true work of art.

Tellurium

The new complication nicknamed ‘tellurium’ required four years of research and development before it could be finally conceived. This complication is fully implemented into the movement and reproduces the rotation of the earth around its own axis, the orbiting of the moon around the earth and the earth around the sun, as well as the corresponding seasons with a zodiacal annual calendar.

Cycle of 365.2466 days

Thanks to the master watchmakers incredible research and development, this clock establishes a cycle of 365.2466 days, which is extremely close to the reference value of 365.2425 days of the Gregorian calendar, that it varies only one day in 390 years, resulting in the next adjustment in the 2412 – make sure you keep all the paperwork for your ancestors ancestors ancestors.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris, Master Grande Tradition or Atmos?

Concluding this article, I find it hard to pick a favorite among the Maison’s novelties. All of them are purely breathtaking. Whether it’s the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris, the Master Grande Tradition or the Atmos. Jaeger-LeCoultre has once again proven that they are true master watchmakers. JLC is capable of implementing all the arts and crafts into their timepieces.

New in town: the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight

When Tudor launched their first blue dial Submariner in 1969, they started a trend. This trend was taken up by not only the French Navy Divers (Marine Nationale), but also the less frequent amateur divers who were seduced by the so-called “Tudor Blue” colour. Celebrating the same colour, the Swiss watch manufacturer launches a line […]

Accutron Spaceview 2020 and Spaceview DNA

As a watch fan it is a pleasure to see that in an industry as conservative as the watch industry, true innovation is around the corner every now and then. I am not talking a new case material or record breaking power reserves. How interesting that might be, these examples are improvements but are not […]

Roger Dubuis Monovortex Split Seconds Chronograph

This spirit has resulted in some spectular pieces, and it is worth mentioning that the brand managed to develop the “big four” complications in just 10 years, totaling 23 different calibers. The tourbillon has become the signature complication of Roger Dubuis over the years but knowing the brand, they wouldn’t settle for a regular tourbillon. […]
