Introducing Longines Spirit Flyback Titanium

Introduced in 2020, the Spirit Flyback has become Longines’ most prolific proposition in recent years. This month the range has been extended with a titanium version.

A firm trend in recent years is the rise in price points for luxury watches. Lead by industry leaders as Rolex, increasing their price structurally to steep levels, the brands beyond follow a similar trend. Even Omega Speedmasters require a serious investment these days, leaving room for other brands to fill the previous price ranges.

Longines is a good example, and with the Spirit Flyback series the brand is seriously moving upwards in the ranks and price levels. The new titanium version retails at € 5400 on nato strap and € 5750 on bracelet. Serious money for a Longines, but the watch is also a serious offering.

For starters, the Spirit is a watch that is strongly tied to the DNA and expertise of Longines. With their affiliation to legendary aviator explorers from the early 20th century such as Charles Lindbergh and Amalia Earhart (who both wore Longines) it is only logical that this heritage finds its way into the Spirit. The flagship piece comes in a 42mm grade 5 titanium case that is an imposing 17mm thick. A bulky, serious chronograph that makes sure it will get the right wrist presence.

The gilt dial pairs nicely with the brushed grey titanium, and the red painted “flyback” is the only subtle difference between the steel and titanium version.

The caseback gives a good view on the L791.4 movement, developed by ETA for Longines. In fact a modified Valjoux 7753 equipped with a column wheel and flyback version. A comfortable 68 hour power reserve is offered and the movement is COSC-certified.

The Longines Spirit Flyback in titanium is an expensive offering if you have your Longines cap on. But looking at the watch in more detail you’ll notice that you get a lot in return. A great high-quality pilots watch from a brand with the right legacy.
