New watches in week 34: Maurice Lacroix, Armin Strom, Jacob & Co and Zenith

A new week, new watches. The Geneva Watch Days buzz is getting louder, and the number of embargos lifting on august 29 are rising. That’s something for next week, let’s have a look at this week and what novelties can be shared.

An affordable engraved sports watch, a montre a souscription, a very personal dual time and a colourful techy for your consideration this week.

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton Urban Tribe

The Aikon is a true success story for Maurice Lacroix. For almost 5 years now the Aikon is a seriously attractive and affordable offering for anyone who likes a steel sports watch with integrated bracelet. And we know many people do.
In 2021 Maurice Lacroix launched a limited edition called the Aikon Urban Tribe, with a fully engraved case and bracelet as the USP. 500 were made and quickly sold.
This week a version with skeleton dial is unveiled. Combined with the tribal-inspired full engravings the watch is a real eye-catcher. At €4,250 the watch is more expensive compared to the first edition, but unique enough to find 500 buyers again.

Armin Strom x Monochrome Gravity Equal Force Maillechort

Online media publication Monochrome needs no introduction, and their taste in collaborations is impeccable, you will agree if you’re into independent watchmaking. Their third “montre de souscription” is unveiled this week: a new take on Armin Stroms’ Gravity Equal Force. One of my favorite watches in general, and the accents Monochrome has made is the use of German silver, or maillechort, in the mainplate. A very traditional material in watchmaking and a great combination with the tech-driven watch philosophy of Armin Strom. 33 pieces will be offered at a price of €22,900.

Jacob & Co. The World is Yours

The story of Jacob & Co is not only a success story but also a family story. Founder Jacob Arabo’s interest in watches started at the age of 13, when his father gifted him a Wakmann Dual Time watch, with two small off-center dials and the world map engraved on the dial. This inspiration has now resulted in “The World is Yours”, a 43mm rose gold dual time watch with blue lacquered and the continents stamped in red gold. A tasteful watch, not typically Jacob & Co style and something that could be the start of a new collection. 999 will be made and retail price is $ 57,000.

Zenith Defy Chroma II El Primero 21

Zenith is giving their highly technical Defy collection a rainbow colour treatment with two new limited editions. The Chroma II El Primero 21 comes in a white ceramic and black ceramic version, 44mm in size and with an open-worked dial showing the caliber 9004 movement. What’s new is the Rainbow-coloured finish on the indexes, certain movement parts, the crown and the straps. 500 of each will be made, and while the white version is only available at brand boutiques and a few selected retailers the black one can be had at all points of sale, priced at CHF 15,500.
